Anemia of pregnancy: Anemia of pregnancy is anemia that occurs during pregnancy. Women's bodies have a greater demand for iron during pregnancy and if intake is not sufficient, anemia can result. Anemia in pregnant women can lead to infant problems such as premature birth, fetal death, retarded growth and other problems.

- Iron supplementation, folic acid supplementation, Vitamin B12 supplementation, increased iron in diet
- Treatment of anemia in pregnancy is very much dependant upon the type, cause and severity of the anemia, as well as individual patient factors. Treatments include:
- Identification of the type of anemia and investigation and treatment of any underlying causes
- No treatment - slightly lower haemoglobin levels in pregnant women can be considered normal and is termed physiological anemia of pregnancy. It is related to the relative hemodilution that occurs in a normal pregnancy
