Prognosis for Arachnoiditis
Prognosis for Arachnoiditis:
There is no cure for arachnoiditis. For the majority of
patients, arachnoiditis is a disabling disease causing intractable pain
and neurological deficits. As the disease progresses, some symptoms may
increase and become permanent. Few people with this disorder are able to
continue working. In some cases, progressive paraplegia may occur.

Pain -- Hope Through Research: NINDS (Excerpt)
Arachnoiditis is a condition in which one of the three membranes
covering the brain and spinal cord, called the arachnoid membrane, becomes
inflamed. A number of causes, including infection or trauma, can result in
inflammation of this membrane. Arachnoiditis can produce disabling,
progressive, and even permanent pain. (Source: excerpt from Pain -- Hope Through Research: NINDS)

- (Source - Diseases Database)
Arachnoiditis is listed as a "rare disease" by the Office of
Rare Diseases (ORD) of the National Institutes of Health
(NIH). This means that Arachnoiditis, or a subtype of Arachnoiditis,
affects less than 200,000 people in the US population.
