Prevalence and Incidence of Atopic dermatitis

Prevalance of Atopic dermatitis:

Atopic dermatitis is one of the most common skin diseases, particularly in infants and children. The estimated prevalence in the United States is 9 percent.[9] The prevalence of atopic dermatitis appears to be increasing.[10] (Source: excerpt from Allergy Statistics: NIAID)

About prevalence and incidence statistics:

The term 'prevalence' of Atopic dermatitis usually refers to the estimated population of people who are managing Atopic dermatitis at any given time. The term 'incidence' of Atopic dermatitis refers to the annual diagnosis rate, or the number of new cases of Atopic dermatitis diagnosed each year. Hence, these two statistics types can differ: a short-lived disease like flu can have high annual incidence but low prevalence, but a life-long disease like diabetes has a low annual incidence but high prevalence. For more information see about prevalence and incidence statistics.
