Prognosis for Best Vitelliform Macular Dystrophy: Vision deterioration is usually quite mild in the first 40 years of life. The rate of progression varies amongst patients with some cases retaining relatively good vision while others suffer a more rapid deterioration of vision. About 75% of patients over the age of 40 retain visual acuity better than 20/40 in their better eye and about 50% of patients over the age of 50 retain visual acuity of 20/70 in their better eye.
