Glossary for Bilateral abductor vocal cord paralysis syndrome

  • Airway obstruction: A blockage in the breathing tubes. The blockage can occur for many different reasons such as tumors, severe allergic reaction, bacterial infections, foreign bodies or trauma. The degree of obstruction will determine how seriously breathing is impaired.
  • Anxiety: A feeling of apprehension, and fear without apparent stimulus that is associated sometime with somatic responses
  • Communication conditions: Medical conditions affecting the communication systems, such as speech.
  • Depressive symptoms: Inappropriate depressed mood.
  • Hypoparathyroidism: A condition where the parathyroid glands don't produce enough parathyroid hormone for normal body functioning. The primary function of these hormones is to regulate body calcium levels.
  • Hypothyroidism: Too little thyroid hormone production.
