Symptoms of Breast abscess

Symptoms of Breast abscess: Introduction

Symptoms of a breast abscess include a breast lump, often located near the nipple. In some cases, the breast lump may be located in another area of the breast. The lump and nearby area is also painful, swollen, red, and inflamed and can feel hot to the touch. Other symptoms can include fever, nipple discharge, and swollen glands (swollen lymph nodes) under the armpit. Swollen lymph nodes can also be tender or painful.

If a breast abscess is not recognized and treated promptly, it can lead to gangrene and permanent tissue damage in extreme cases. The infection from an breast abscess can also spread to the bloodstream, and lead to serious, even life-threatening complications, such as sepsis, kidney failure, and death. Symptoms of complications may include confusion, lethargy, delirium, seizures, low blood pressure, shock, loss of consciousness, and coma....more about Breast abscess »
