Treatments for Breast lump

Treatments for Breast lump:

Treatment plans for a breast lump or lumps are individualized depending on the underlying cause, the presence of coexisting diseases, the age and medical history of the patient, and other factors. Treatment generally involves a multifaceted plan that addresses the cause, minimizes the discomfort of a breast lump or lumps and decreases the risk of developing serious complications, such as the formation of a breast abscess or the spread of breast cancer to other parts of the body.

When a breast lump is caused by a clogged milk duct in a breastfeeding woman, the treatment is massage of the breast and hot showers or warm compresses.

When a breast lump is caused by a bacterial infection, such as a breast abscess or mastitis, antibiotics are prescribed. When a breast lump is caused by a yeast infection (thrush), an antifungal cream is used on the breast nipples. The nursing infant must also be treated with antifungal medication to avoid reinfecting the breastfeeding women's breasts.

Treatment of breast cysts may not be needed because they often go away by themselves. A needle aspiration, or removal of fluid with a needle, may be done in some cases.

Women with fibrocystic breasts may need no treatment other than wearing a well-fitted supportive bra. If there is pain, some women may benefit from reducing or eliminating caffeine from their diets. Hormone medications may be prescribed in some cases to stabilize hormonal changes and reduce fibrocystic breast lumps and pain.

Treatment of breast cancer is complex and varies depending on the type of cancer cells and the stage of cancer, a person's medical history, age and other factors. Treatment generally includes surgery to remove the breast lump and part of all of the affected breast and radiation therapy. Medications, such as chemotherapy and hormonal therapy are may also be used.
