Glossary for Breast pain

  • Breast Cancer: Cancer of the breast.
  • Breast Feeding: Nursing an infant with breast milk.
  • Breast abscess: Pus-filled abscess in the breast
  • Fibroadenoma: Benign tumor containing fibrous tissues and glands (common in breasts)
  • Fibrocystic breasts: The development of benign fluid-filled cysts in the breasts as well as scar-like tissue. The cysts can make breast cancer examinations more difficult.
  • Galactocele: A milk filled cyst caused by a blocked mammary duct.
  • Gynecomastia: Enlarged male breasts
  • Inflammatory breast cancer: A rare aggressive form of breast cancer. The cancer tends to develop as a layer rather than as a lump. Metastasis is common.
  • Injury: Any damage inflicted in the body
  • Mastalgia: Generalized breast pain or tenderness
  • Mastitis: Infected breast common in nursing mothers
  • Mastodynia: Pain that is located in the breast
  • Menopause: The end of female menstruation and fertility.
  • Pregnancy: The condition of supporting a fetus from conception till birth.
  • Premenstrual syndrome: Condition with cyclic symptoms related to menstruation.
  • Shingles: Infectious viral infection occuring years after chickenpox infection.
  • Zuskas Disease: A metaplastic condition that affects the lactiferous ducts of the breast
