What is Carcinoid syndrome?

What is Carcinoid syndrome?

  • Carcinoid syndrome: Carcinoid heart disease is a rare, metastatic disease that occurs predominantly in the right heart. The tricuspid and pulmonic valves are affected, leading to right heart failure, which results in increased morbidity and mortality.

Carcinoid syndrome is listed as a "rare disease" by the Office of Rare Diseases (ORD) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This means that Carcinoid syndrome, or a subtype of Carcinoid syndrome, affects less than 200,000 people in the US population.
