Glossary for Cluster headache

  • Amaurosis fugax: A rare condition where a temporary blockage of blood flow to the retina causes vision loss in the affected eye until the blood flow returns.
  • Angiofollicular lymph hyperplasia: A rare disorder of the lymph system characterized by the development of benign tumors in lymph tissue anywhere in the body.
  • Blepharoptosis: Droopy upper eyelid. The condition may be caused by such things as stroke, brain tumor, diabetes and myasthenia gravis.
  • Blindness: The inability to see out of the eyes
  • Chronic tension headache: Chronic headache affecting the occiput of the head often due to overwork or stress.
  • Classic migraine: Migraine is a neurological disorder that generally involves repeated headaches. Some people also have nausea, vomiting, and other symptoms. Most people with migraines do not have any warning before it occurs. However, some people have a visual disturbance called an aura before the headache starts.
  • Cluster headache: Headache that occurs periodically, with active periods interrupted by spontaneous remissions.
  • Common Headache: Common headache that everyone occasionally gets.
  • Dental pain: Any pain that is caused by ones dentition
  • Droopy eye-lid: Droopiness of the eyelids (ptosis)
  • Eye pain: Pain in the eye.

  • Headache: In medicine a headache or cephalalgia is a symptom of a number of different conditions of the head and sometimes neck. Some of the causes are benign while others are medical emergencies. It ranks among the most common pain complaints
  • Headache and migraine conditions: Medical conditions related to headaches including migraine.
  • Horner's syndrome: A rare condition caused by damage to the sympathetic nervous system that supply the eye on the affected side of the head.
  • Migraine: Chronic recurring headaches with or without a preceding aura.
  • Nervous system conditions: Diseases affecting the nerves and the nervous system.
  • Optic nerve disorder: Any condition which impairs the function of the optic nerve. Examples of such conditions includes glaucoma, optic nerve inflammation and impaired blood supply to the optic nerve.

  • Post-traumatic headache: A condition characterized by a headache which is precipitated by trauma

  • Sexual headache: Sudden excruciating headache when approaching orgasm or afterwards.
  • Sinusitis: Sinusitis is an inflammation of the paranasal sinuses.
  • Stuffed nose: Blockage to the nose often from runny nose
  • Sumatriptan -- Teratogenic Agent: There is evidence to indicate that exposure to Sumatriptan during pregnancy may have a teratogenic effect on the fetus. A teratogen is a substance that can cause birth defects. The likelihood and severity of defects may be affected by the level of exposure and the stage of pregnancy that the exposure occurred at.
  • Temporal arteritis: Inflamed head artery causing headache.
  • Tension headache: Tension-type headaches can be episodic or chronic.Episodic tension-type headaches are defined as tension-type headaches occurring fewer than 15 days a month, whereas chronic tension headaches occur 15 days or more a month for at least 6 months. Tension-type headaches can last from minutes to days, months or even years, though a typical tension headache lasts 4-6 hours.
  • Thrombocytosis: An increased number of platelets in the blood.
  • Valproic Acid -- Teratogenic Agent: There is evidence to indicate that exposure to Valproic Acid during pregnancy may have a teratogenic effect on the fetus. A teratogen is a substance that can cause birth defects. The likelihood and severity of defects may be affected by the level of exposure and the stage of pregnancy that the exposure occurred at.
  • Vasculitis: Inflammation of a blood or lymph vessel
