Glossary for Diabetes insipidus, nephrogenic, dominant type

  • Amiloride -- Teratogenic Agent: There is strong evidence to indicate that exposure to Amiloride during pregnancy may have a teratogenic effect on the fetus. A teratogen is a substance that can cause birth defects. The likelihood and severity of defects may be affected by the level of exposure and the stage of pregnancy that the exposure occurred at.
  • Dehydration: Loss of fluids in the body
  • Diabetes-like conditions: Medical conditions that appear to be similar to diabetes.
  • Endocrine system conditions: Medical conditions affecting the endocrine systems, such as the related hormones or glands.
  • Failure to thrive: Slow growth or inadequate weight gain of an infant or child.
  • Genetic Disease: Any disease that is handed down to oneself through the chromosomes of ones parents
  • Hypernatremia: Increased blood sodium levels. Can be caused by excessive sodium levels but is more often a result of low water levels in the body.
  • Irritability: Excessive feelings of annoyance or frustration.
  • Kidney conditions: Any condition affecting the kidney organs.
  • Urinary system conditions: Medical conditions affecting urination, urinary organs or the urinary system.
