The Acai Berry Diet is actually not a diet in itself, but is the addition of the acai berry to other diets. The acai berry grows on an Amazonian palm tree is high in antioxidants, like many fruits and vegetables. There are no specific recommendations for foods that should or shouldn't be included in the Acai Berry Diet in addition to the acai berry. Rather the acai berry is used by dieters as a supplement to other diet plans. It is claimed that the antioxidant qualities of the acai berry will support weight loss by improving digestion, improving metabolism, and reducing appetite. The acai berry has also been reputed to have many other health benefits, some scientifically proven; others are not proven. Acai berry supplements are available in a variety of forms and can be quite expensive. They are also reports of scams that involve selling poor quality acai berry products. Eating a wide range of more accessible and inexpensive fruits and vegetables can also produce the same antioxidant effects.
As with any diet plan, optimal results for health and weight loss and control are achieved when a well balanced diet plan that encourages gradual weight loss is combined with a sensible exercise program and healthy lifestyle changes. Any diet may have the potential to be harmful for some people, so consultation with a health care provider before starting a diet plan and exercise program is recommended.
