Inherited spherocytic anemia: Inherited Spherocytic anemia is an inherited blood disorder characterized by red blood cells that are shaped like a sphere (spherocytes) rather than the normal doughnut shape. These abnormal cells are broken down prematurely resulting in a shortage of red blood cells (anemia).

- Blood transfusions, folic acid supplements, surgical removal of spleen - usually done later in childhood.
- No treatment if anemia is mild
- Diet rich in folate or folate supplementation to compensate for increased utilisation with high red blood cell turnover
- Blood transfusion for severe anemia
- Splenectomy in patients with severe haemolytic anemia
