Glossary for Lipodystrophy, familial partial, type 3 (FPLD3)

  • Acanthosis nigricans: It is a brown to black, poorly defined, velvety hyperpigmentation of the skin usually present in the posterior and lateral folds of the neck, the axilla, groin, umbilicus and other areas.
  • Endocrine system conditions: Medical conditions affecting the endocrine systems, such as the related hormones or glands.
  • Genetic Disease: Any disease that is handed down to oneself through the chromosomes of ones parents
  • Gestational diabetes: Diabetes that occurs in pregnant women, usually resolving after birth.
  • Hyperglycemia: High levels of glucose in the blood
  • Lipid metabolism conditions: Disorders affecting the metabolism of lipids (blood fats), including cholesterol.
  • Metabolic disorders: Disorders that affect the metabolic system in human
  • Oligomenorrhoea: Periods occurring infrequently, with time between periods varying from 35 days to 6 months.
  • Pregnancy toxemia /hypertension: Preeclampsia is the development of high blood pressure, excess protein in the urine and swelling during pregnancy. Hypertension is a serious health condition due to the fact that it often causes no symptoms until it is severe. The blood pressure usually returns to normal after delivery.
  • Primary amenorrhea: Never starting menstruation at puberty
