Glossary for Mental retardation -- coloboma -- slimness

  • Mental retardation: A very rare syndrome characterized mainly by mental retardation, hypogonadism, diabetes and facial and skull abnormalities.
  • Pectus excavatum: Depression of the breast bone - sunken chest appearance. The condition is usually a congenital deformity but may occur in association with conditions such as rickets, Marfan syndrome and Poland syndrome. Severe cases may result in breathing problems or may affect heart function.
  • Respiratory distress: A condition which is characterized by poor respiration that results in the body being under stress
  • Speech symptoms: Problems with speech or voice.
  • Voice symptoms: Symptoms affecting the voice
