Glossary for Metastatic breast cancer

  • Brachial Plexus Injury: Damage to the nerves controlling the shoulder and arm (often from childbirth).
  • Breast Cancer: Cancer of the breast.
  • Breast conditions: Any condition affecting the breast
  • Cancer: Abnormal overgrowth of body cells.
  • Fever: Elevation of the body temperature above the normal 37 degrees celsius
  • Fibroadenoma: Benign tumor containing fibrous tissues and glands (common in breasts)
  • Hemorrhage: Bleeding of any type (especially when referring to severe bleeding)
  • Hodgkin's disease, adult: A type of cancer that affects the lymphatic system in adults. The lymphatic system forms part of the body's immune system. This type of cancer can also occur in children.
  • Hodgkin's disease, childhood: A type of cancer that affects the lymphatic system in children. The lymphatic system forms part of the body's immune system. This type of cancer can also occur in children.
  • Human carcinogen -Tamoxifen: Tamoxifen is a drug used to reduce the risk of developing breast cancer but is also deemed to be carcinogenic to humans as it increases the risk of developing other cancers. The carcinogenicity of the substance may be influenced by the duration and level of exposure. Tamoxifen exposure is associated mainly with an increased risk of developing uterine cancer.
  • Lump in the breast: breast lumps can involve any of the tissues that make up the breast, including the skin, ducts, lobules and connective tissue
  • Lymphedema: Swelling causes by lymphatic fluid retention
  • Metastatic cancer: Any cancer that has spread to other parts of the body.
  • Nipple discharge: Discharge of fluid or milk from one or both breasts
  • Obesity: An increase in the body weight greater than that required for normal function that is characterised by the accumulation of excessive fat
  • Pain: A feeling of suffering, agony, distress caused by the stimulation of pain fibres in the nervous system
  • Soft tissue tumors: Any tumor of the soft tissues (e.g. muscles, cartilage), including cancer and benign tumors.
  • Spinal Cord Tumor: Cancer of the spinal cord or central nervous system.
  • Womens health conditions: Medical conditions related to women's health.
