Glossary for Metatropic dwarfism

  • Bone conditions: Conditions that affect the bones
  • Death: The cessation of life
  • Failure To Thrive: Slow growth or inadequate weight gain of an infant or child.
  • Genetic Disease: Any disease that is handed down to oneself through the chromosomes of ones parents
  • Kyphoscoliosis: Outward curvature of the spine at the back causing hunching or Dowager's hump
  • Metatrophic dysplasia: A very rare form of dwarfism involving short limbs and a long trunk. Less than 100 cases of the condition have been reported.
  • Musculoskeletal conditions: Medical conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system of bones, muscles and related structures.
  • Quadriplegia: A condition where the patient becomes fully or partially paralysed from the neck down and is unable to move their arms or legs.
  • Rheumatic conditions: Any condition that affects ones joints
  • Scoliosis: Sideways curvature of the spine
  • Short stature: A rare syndrome characterized mainly by the association of short stature, Pierre Robin sequence, cleft mandible, hand anomalies and clubfoot.
  • Short trunk: Short trunk refers to a chest, abdomen, pelvis that are unusually short.
