Glossary for Microphthalmia, syndromic 7

  • Atrial Septal Defect: An abnormal connection between the 2 atria, or upper chambers of the heart
  • Erythema: A condition which is characterized by redness of the skin due to congestion of the capillaries
  • Eye and vision conditions: Medical conditions affecting the eyes or the vision systems.
  • Genetic Disease: Any disease that is handed down to oneself through the chromosomes of ones parents
  • Head Conditions: Conditions that affect the head
  • Hydrocephalus: A rare condition where the normal flow of cerebrospinal fluid is impaired by dilated brain ventricles which causes the fluid to accumulate in the skull and hence result in increased brain pressure.
  • Hypospadias: Congenital defect with misplaced urinary opening
  • Microphthalmia: Abnormally small eyes.
  • Nail abnormality: An abnormality of the finger and/or toe nails.
  • Small eye: Small eye is a condition in which an eye is unusually small.
  • Ventricular septal defect: An abnormal connection between the 2 lower chambers (ventricles) of the heart.
