What is Mikulicz syndrome?

What is Mikulicz syndrome?

  • Mikulicz syndrome: A rare condition involving enlargement of the salivary and tear-producing glands which results from any of a number of diseases such as leukemia, syphilis and tuberculosis. If the enlargement occurs on its own and not as a result of another condition, it is called Mikulicz disease.
  • Mikulicz syndrome: A chronic, benign, and usually painless inflammatory swelling of the lacrimal and salivary glands. It is considered by some to include the glandular enlargement associated with other diseases, such as Sjogren's syndrome, sarcoidosis, lupus erythematosus, etc.
