Balance board: A balance board is a firm board that balances on a center pedestal; the patient stands on the board with both feet while performing specific exercises to strengthen weak or injured muscles and joints of the legs, particularly the ankles. Balance boards also improve the patient's overall balance, which is controlled by the vestibular system in the brain. A balance board may be used for a physical therapy program or for personal use at home.
