Description of Androgen

Androgen: A type of hormone that promotes the development and maintenance of male sex characteristics.

Androgen: Synthetic derivatives of the male hormone, androgen, that promote tissue growth by increasing the metabolic processes involved with protein synthesis and are used to promote weight gain in wasting diseases. They are used by bodybuilders and athletes to increase muscle mass, strength, and stamina.(NCI)

Androgen: compounds that interact with androgen receptors in target tissues to bring about the effects similar to those of testosterone; depending on the target tissues, androgenic effects can be on sexual differentiation, male reproductive organs, spermtogenesis, secondary male sex characteristics, libido, development of muscle mass, strength, and power.
