Description of Atopy

Atopy: genetic predisposition toward the development of immediate (type I) hypersensitivity reactions against common environmental antigens (atopic allergy); the most common clinical manifestation is allergic rhinitis; bronchial asthmas, atopic dermatitis and food allergy also occur.
