Introduction: Mazindol

Description of Mazindol

Mazindol: 5-(p-chlorophenyl)-2,5-dihydro-3H- imidazo(2,1-a)isoindol-5-ol; mimics cocaine and amphetamines by inhibiting catecholamine uptake in CNS synapses, but is not reinforcing or abused; used as a molecular probe and to reduce cocaine craving.

Mazindol: Tricyclic anorexigenic agent unrelated to and less toxic than AMPHETAMINE, but with some similar side effects. It inhibits uptake of catecholamines and blocks the binding of cocaine to the dopamine uptake transporter.
