Orotic aciduria: [MIM*258900] A rare disorder of pyrimidine metabolism characterized by hypochromic anemia with megaloblastic changes in bone marrow, leukopenia, retarded growth, and urinary excretion of orotic acid; autosomal recessive inheritance, caused by mutation in the uridine monophosphatate synthase gene (MMPS) on 3q13. Orotic aciduria: excess of orotic acid in the urine occurring in several metabolic disorders and also resulting from the administration of some drugs; one disorder is an autosomal recessive defect of pyrimidine metabolism due to deficiency of orate phosphoribosyltransferate or orotidine 5'-phosphatae decarboxylase.
