Rubeola: Although this word is correctly pronounced with the stress on the third-to-last syllable (rube'ola), the pronunciation with stress on the second-last syllable (rubeo'la) is more usual in the U.S. Do not confuse this word with rubella. The Spanish word rubeola refers not to rubeola but to rubella. A term used for measles; not to be confused with rubella among English speakers. [Mod. L. dim. of ruber, red, reddish]
