88% of emergency department patients report feeling safe from medical errors

A recent survey was done to determine people’s perceptions of the safety of emergency departments. 767 previous emergency department patients were interviewed and the results showed that 88% believe that safety from medical errors was between good and excellent. 38% patients claimed to have had at least one error-related problem: 22% was due to misdiagnosis, 16% was due to physician error, 16% was due to medication error, 12% was due to nursing error and 10% was due to a wrong test/procedure.
