Adult stomach reflux not influenced by food allergy

Reflux occurs when stomach juices flow back into the esophagus and cause symptoms such as heartburn. Untreated heartburn can lead to esophageal cancer. Analysis of data revealed that only 27% of food allergy sufferers also had reflux whereas in some other allergies, 40% of allergy sufferers had reflux. Allergies as a group however, were at higher risk of a reflux disorder than the general population. Previous studies have nevertheless linked food allergy in children with a higher risk of reflux.
