Alternative drug for type 2 diabetes awaiting FDA approval

Exenatide is waiting for approval by the FDA as an alternative diabetes drug for type 2 sufferers who don't respond well to sulfonylurea-type drugs. The drug also promotes weight loss. The drug works by imitating intestinal tract hormones that help regulate glucose levels. The main side effects of the drug are mild to moderate nausea during initial stages of treatment.
