Bextra picks up Vioxx slack but it carries it’s own life-threatening risks

The FDA is about to highlight safety concerns with regard to Bextra, a pain relieving drug. In rare cases, Bextra can cause Stevens-Johnson Syndrome during the first 2 weeks of taking the drug. The syndrome can be life threatening and causes blistering of skin, mouth and eyes. Celebrex also has the potential of causing this condition but the risk is smaller than for Bextra. Bextra has also been linked to increased risk of heart attacks in open-heart surgery patients and is therefore not recommended for post-surgical use.
