Existing studies have produced data that indicate that foods with oils that contain alpha-linolenic acid may have a protective effect against arrhythmias. Arrhythmias can cause sudden heart attacks. In the study group of 76,763 women, those with the highest level of ALA consumption faced a 21% reduced risk of coronary heart disease than those with the lowest consumption level.
