Child abuse cleared after 6 year old dies

The father of a 6 year old girl who was charged and is serving 25 years for severely shaking his biological daughter, resulting in reduced vision and developmental disabilities, has been cleared of causing her death. The child succumbed to a lung infection and suffocation during her hospital admission for the assault, where doctors inserted a tracheostomy tube to help with her breathing. While cleaning around the tracheostomy site a nurse caused the tube to come out and could not replace it. To add further pain to the family, the girls’ body was lost for many weeks after Hurricane Katrina, but eventually found several miles away in another town.
