Curry ingredient may be effective against cancer

Researchers claim that compounds in the galangal (a plant root) used in curry dishes may be able to inhibit cancer cell growth as well as protect healthy cells from carcinogenic compounds. Some regions of the world already use galangal to treat stomach cancer and as an aphrodisiac. Tests on the ingredient showed a tripled reduction in incidence of breast and lung cancer. However, these preliminary results need to be further investigated.
