Development of possible diagnostic test for essential tremor is in sight following discovery

The genetic mutation that causes essential tremor has been discovered leading to hope for a possible diagnostic test for the condition that affects 1 to 4% of the population. This discovery may form the basis of a diagnostic test and hence prevent misdiagnosis with conditions such as Parkinson's disease. Essential tremor causes uncontrollable shaking in limbs or head.
