A study has revealed that preschool children are better of having a continuous glucose monitoring system rather than the finger-prick and twice daily insulin injections. It allows for fewer fluctuations in the blood sugar. Research results show that glucose levels were higher than normal for more than half of a 24-hour period. Furthermore, the hemoglobin A1c test used to determine level of control that diabetics achieve is at best an average of the very high and very low glucose levels. Better control of blood sugar causes fewer long term complications.
