Gold used to direct radiation in prostate cancer

An Australian hospital is developing a new prostate cancer treatment that involves inserting tiny grains of 24 carat gold into the prostate using ultrasound. The gold allows the radiotherapy treatment to be more accurate as it is directed by the gold. The treatment can be expensive with the gold grains costing $300 and usually three are required but it is claimed to be effective and simple.
