Marijuana provokes mental illness

Experts have compared brain scans of known adolescent pot smokers and those diagnosed with schizophrenia and found alarming similarities. There has previously been speculation about the use of marijuana and the presentation of schizophrenia in teenagers as to whether the mental illness leads to drug use, or drug use leads to schizophrenia. Some scientists believe that drug use and abuse can stimulate genetically susceptible people to develop psychological diseases, particularly at stages in brain development, i.e adolescence.
