Medical mistake in removal of wrong kidney

A hospital has reveled how a patient who underwent an operation to remove their kidney had the healthy kidney identified and incorrectly removed. Surgical procedures generally follow a protocol whereby the operation site is marked on the patient prior to surgery, which is checked with the patient and the surgeon to avoid such errors.
