Obesity is the cause of surging diabetes figures

The Audit Commission in Wales noted that 3% of the population of Wales had diabetes with the prevalence as high as 20% in minority ethnic communities. It is also believed that another 1 ½ % have undiagnosed diabetes. 9% of hospital costs are a result of diabetes. By 2025, these figures are expected to increase by 28%. More than 80% of diabetes cases are caused by weight gain. Healthy eating and exercise could reverse this trend caused by modernization.
