One quarter of all Indians have diabetes

35 million of the 150 million world wide diabetes patients are Indians. The scenario becomes worse when you consider that this figure only represents diagnosed people and a quarter of Indians with diabetes are undiagnosed. 70% of Indian diabetics are from urban areas and most are 45 to 55 years old. Diabetes reduces live expectancy by up to seven years and increases the risk of gangrene by 25 times, the risk of heart disease by 50 times and renal problems by 17 times.
