An assistant professor of obstetrics, gynecology and psychiatry at the Duke University Medical Center believes that 10 to 17% of women suffer from postpartum depression. Symptoms can persist for months and include irritability, frequent crying, lethargy, lack of appetite, overeating and feelings of hurting oneself or baby. Therapy and medication can help alleviate the symptoms.
