Pschological disorder incidence higher in diabetics

Adult diabetics are much more prone to depression, anxiety and other psychological disorders than those without diabetes. Adult diabetics were 90% more likely to suffer from serious psychological distress (eg sadness, nervousness) than non-diabetics. They were also more likely to be financially worse off and had higher rates of marital problems. Those suffering psychological distress also tended not to adhere to drug treatments as well because of the cost. Thus it is particularly important to diagnose and treat mental disorders such as depression in diabetics.
