Reckless teen behavior and depression link

The risk of developing depression has been found to follow risky teen behavior such as drug use and ambiguous sex for girls, and heavy drinking and drug use for boys within a year of onset of the behaviors. Drug use and sex precedes depression, but not vice versa. Other warning signs for depression include poor school achievement, moodiness, overwhelming sadness, low interest in usually pleasurable activities, decreased concentration, change in sleeping patterns, increased/decreased appetite, and thoughts or threats of suicide.
