Risky obesity operations

Obese people undergo such surgery as gastric bypass, stomach banding, and duodenal switch to allow rapid weight loss. However, there is risk with any surgery and these invasive procedures provide more, such as bleeding, vomiting, stomach ulcers, and hernias, with mortality rates reaching almost 1 in 100 patients. The recovery period is thwarted by pain and a complete change in diet with extreme food restrictions, particularly no fat or sugar, and vitamin and mineral supplements essential to a person's diet to prevent a malabsorption syndrome. Doctors argue that behavioral counselling and personally designed fitness programs are just as effective in determined individuals, with far less cost and side effects incurred.
