Settlement reached in case where stillborn baby disposed of as hospital waste

The parents of a stillborn baby were awarded $100,000 for emotional suffering and an undisclosed amount from the hospital after their baby was accidentally disposed of as medical waste. The baby died at 20 weeks and the mother underwent a 5 hour labour. The fetus was presented to the parents after she was cleaned and dressed. An autopsy was authorized but instead of the baby returning to the parents for a private burial, it was disposed of with the hospital medical waste.
