Study on effects of ephedrine supports FDA's recommendation to ban dietary supplements containing the product

Food supplements containing ephedra was banned in February by the US Food and Drug Administration as it could cause heart attacks and strokes. A study's findings have supported the move to ban the products. The study used dogs instead of human subjects but nevertheless found that ephedrine could cause sudden heart attacks or strokes in if the substance was taken while an arterial blockage was present.
