Two adolescent children in Turkey who were siblings died within a week of each other have had their cases assessed by health authorities and identified to be infected with the same strain that has killed people in China and southeast Asia, H5N1 bird flu. 7 other people, including another family member of the deceased are also being treated with suspected bird flu from the same township, but experts do not believe that the infections are the start of a larger pandemic where the bird flu can be transmitted from person to person. It is believed that all people in Turkey currently infected with the bird flu handled and lived near poultry.
