Up to ¼ of bipolar disorder sufferers attempt suicide due to delayed diagnosis

Bipolar disorder or manic depression affects up to 1:50 people in UK. Diagnosis often takes 8 years to occur. Sufferers experience alternating euphoria and depression. They often seek treatment when depressed and are thus given anti-depressants and condition remains undiagnosed and becomes worse. The delayed diagnosis results in ¼ of sufferers attempting suicide.
