A study by the Gynecologic Oncology Group has discovered that uterine biopsy results are disagreed on by pathologists up to 60% of the time. The study indicates that uterine biopsies - where uterine or endometrial cells are biopsied - make diagnosis very difficult. The results are that some may have unnecessary major surgery such as hysterectomy or their cancer may go undiagnosed. Uterine cancer affects over 40.000 women in the US annually - of these 7,090 die. Irregular bleeding is the main symptom.
