Vitamin D deficiency increases diabetes risk

A UK research's preliminary findings indicate that lack of Vitamin D may increase risk of diabetes. This could explain why dark skinned and Asian people are more prone to diabetes - dark skinned people less able to make their own Vitamin D. Three studies showed that children and breast feeding mothers receiving Vitamin D supplements were 60% less likely to develop type 1 diabetes.
