Woman adjusts her medical malpractice claim to 800,000 following the outcome of a similar trial

A 69 year old woman is claiming $800,000 damages after a surgical towel was accidentally left in her stomach for a week. Her claim has risen from $150,000 following a similar case where a man was awarded $800,000 after a surgical towel was left in his shoulder following surgery. She believes that the cases are similar so the award should be similar. However, doctors are claiming that her injuries are a result of a preexisting condition and not their negligence. She initially had surgery to remove a benign mass from her colon. She claims that she now still has stomach problems and doesn’t feel very well.
